By Jiali Wang and Sasha Stone  By The WRITE Center  We are thrilled to announce that one of our WRITE Center leaders, Dr. Steve Graham, was awarded the Barry J. Zimmerman Award for Outstanding Contributions to the fields of studying and self-regulated learning research. This award recognizes his exceptional work researching self-regulation and writing instruction and acknowledges the significant impact of his research on countless students and teachers. For over 40 years, Dr. Graham has made significant contributions to our understanding of the critical role of self-regulation in the writing process, how to effectively teach writing to students of various ages and abilities and backgrounds, and how to integrate writing in content area learning. Dr. Graham's research has been characterized by its real-world impact. He has developed and tested numerous evidence-based writing instruction programs and interventions that have helped students read, write, and develop strategies to succeed academically in classrooms globally. His work has provided guidance to educators on how to support students' self-regulatory skills so that they can navigate through complicated writing tasks, especially for students with learning disabilities and English Language learners. Dr. Graham's work has been widely published in prestigious education journals and books. The effects of strategy instruction have been testified in countless research studies. He has also been invited to speak at many conferences and professional development events worldwide and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Thorndike Career Award from Division 15 of the American Psychological Association and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Writing Project and the International Literacy Association. He has also served a variety of organizations, including UNESCO, the National Institute of Health, the Institute of Educational Sciences, and the What Works Clearinghouse. His work has made tremendous impacts through not only these organizations and academic journals but also social media and his collaborations with researchers, teachers, and educational leaders. Dr. Steve Graham will be officially recognized for this award at the SSRL SIG business meeting at AERA. His research continues to influence the field and improve the learning and teaching of writing for students. The WRITE Center is proud of his accomplishments and grateful he is a part of our team committed to improving students’ learning.
