Jacob seeks to increase access to a quality education by researching and addressing the problems facing students, such as irrelevant and inaccessible curriculum and teacher preparedness that fails to respond to diverse students’ needs. He is interested in helping teachers enact pedagogies to create more equitable schools and citizens capable of entering into dialogue around important social and political issues.
Jacob has spent the past three years as a high school English teacher, most recently in Boston, and previously in East Los Angeles as a Teaching Fellow for the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), which serves under-resourced Catholic Schools across the country. He also earned his Masters of Education from the University of Notre Dame in 2016. Since graduating from the program, he has spent the past two summers mentoring pre-service teachers in the ACE program as a clinical instructor. His role with pre-service teachers, helping them implement various teaching method and design lessons for the diverse students they will serve, has augmented his interest in researching effective ways to engage teachers in transformative pedagogies.
