Penelope Collins is an associate professor in UCI's School of Education. She is devoted to supporting language and literacy development for all children and youth. Her research examines the development of literacy skills among linguistically diverse students from kindergarten through high school, for typically-achieving students and those wit learning disabilities. Her research includes the use of in-class and out-of-school interventions, as well as the use of digital tools to support students in reading and writing. Penelope is a co-author of the textbook, California Gateways: Mastering the California Standards, and the U.S. Department of Education's Effective Literacy and Language Instruction for English Learners in the Elementary Grades, an IES Practice Guide.
